Polish sausage is one of the types of sausages that are commonly used in dishes that originated in North America as well as Eastern Europe. The cold cuts add savory taste to special delicacies and side dishes. Learning how to cook fresh Polish sausage is easy. Below are some of the most famous recipes that use the sausage as main ingredients.

Sausage Soup

If you want to serve an aromatic and tasty appetizer, then you can try preparing and cooking this special soup. The ingredients in this delectable starter include a pound of fresh Polish sausage soup, two teaspoons bacon fat, six cups beef broth, 12 ounces beer and a cup of chopped onions. To improve the flavor of the dish, you can add 16 ounces sauerkraut and 16 ounces diced tomatoes. Do not forget to include two tablespoons brown sugar, a teaspoon of crushed red pepper as well as three cups of diced potatoes.

Heat bacon fat on a skillet and cook onion for two minutes. Add the beer, broth, tomatoes, sauerkraut, red pepper flakes and brown sugar. Wait for the mixture to boil. Transfer the mixture in a saucepan. Cook for an hour. Add the meats and potatoes. Cover the pan and cook for half hour. Serve immediately.

Polish Sausage Casserole

In the recipe, you will need six fresh Polish sausages, a can of sauerkraut, a cup of sliced potatoes and two tablespoons butter. For seasoning, include ¼ tablespoon salt, ¼ tablespoon pepper, ¼ tablespoon paprika, ½ teaspoon caraway seed and ¼ cayenne pepper.

Pour half cup of water in a pan. Place the pan over medium heat and put the meat in the skillet. Cook for five minutes and drain excess water. Slice the sausages into several portions. Transfer the cooked meats on a baking dish. Add the remaining ingredients except the butter. Spread butter on the meats. Arrange the potatoes on the dish. Place the baking dish in an oven that was preheated to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook for an hour.

Grilled Sausage

This recipe contains a pound of fresh Polish sausage, a cup of barbecue sauce, 1/3 cup water and four tablespoons butter. In addition, it also includes ½ cup sliced bell pepper, a medium size onion as well as two teaspoons Worcestershire sauce.

Place the meats on a grill. Cook for ten minutes, five minutes on each side. Put the remaining ingredients in a bowl and mix. Heat the sauce for 15 minutes. Pour the sauce on a pan and add the cooked meats. Place the pan on the grill and cook for 15 minutes.

There are many different sorts of rice; among them, the parboiled one that I do not recommend, regardless of the brand. Some people may like it but for me this is something other than rice. The taste is awful and it seems to never be cooked. To have good rice, use Indian, Thai or Asian rice; or any other rice that is not parboiled. Italian rice is very good as well. According to the rice you buy, you will need to use a specific cooking method; for example, Asian rice is not good for making risotto, Italian rice is not good for serving with Chinese cooking.

Boiled rice: The simplest way to cook rice.

Note: This is a very simple way to cook rice but not the best because the rice, boiled in a large quantity of water, is “washed” and most of the taste is lost in the water. Look below to see my recommended methods for cooking rice. The methods to cook the rice are different according to the sort of rice you are using.

1- Bring a big quantity of water to the boil. (8 to 10 times the volume of rice), together with 1 tbsp of salt for each 2 pints of water used.

2- Add the rice and bring back to the boil, on a high heat, stirring frequently.

3- Reduce the heat to a low to medium heat, to keep boiling until the rice is cooked. Stir occasionally to make sure the rice is not sticking to the pot.

4- When cooked, (about 15 minutes, maybe less according to the specific rice you are using), strain and serve immediately, plain or with butter or olive oil.

5- If you are not serving the rice immediately, cool the rice in cold water, strain and store until you are ready to serve it.

(The rice can be very easily reheated in a microwave oven. You can also use it to prepare fried rice)

Pilaff: An alternative way to cook rice (use Basmati rice for instance for this recipe)

This method is called riz Pilaff (or pilaw) in French cuisine.

1- Take an ovenproof dish, put on a medium heat with one tbsp of butter for 2 cups of rice.

2- Add some chopped onion and sweat* in butter.

3- Add the rice; stir it in to the butter with the onion, for one or two minutes, until the rice becomes translucent.

4- Add 11/2 the volume of water, together with some salt, pepper, and a whole garlic clove if you like, (this is optional).

5- Bring to the boil, cover with aluminium foil, put in the oven at 200°C (400° F), and cook for between 14 and 17 minutes, until done. It should be ready when all the water has been absorbed.

*When sweating the onions you can add a choice of whole spices (not ground). Sweat together with the onions, then add the rice and cook together. You will have to remove the spices when eating or before you serve the rice. This takes a little time, but the rice cooked in this way is really very delicious.

Risotto: To use Italian risotto rice it is better to cook it the risotto way.

Here is the basic way to do it.

1- Sweat chopped onions in some butter.

2- Add the rice, (”arborio”, “vialone”, “carnaroli”…; (about 3 ounces per person).

3- Stir until the rice becomes translucent.

4- Add dry white wine to the level of the rice. Cook until almost all the wine is evaporated.

5- According to the recipe you are preparing, (if your risotto will be made plain, with sea food, meat, vegetables etc.) add fish stock, vegetable or chicken broth; (for 12 oz of rice add about 1 pint of the stock, you will add more later).

6- Bring to the boil on a medium heat, stirring frequently. Add salt and pepper.

7- Keep cooking the rice, adding more liquid when necessary. (The quantity of liquid necessary to use in risotto is difficult to say as different rice brands will absorb more or less liquid.)

8- Immediately after the rice has absorbed the previous amount of liquid, add more liquid, and repeatedly add a little each time, allowing the rice to absorb little by little the liquid.

9- Repeat the process until the rice is cooked, stirring frequently.

10- When done, the risotto should be cooked but a little “al dente”. It should be creamy as well.

11- To finish add grated parmesan and serve immediately.

12- To give more taste, add chopped garlic, cream during the cooking process.

Almost anything can be added in risotto, depending on personal choice; vegetables cut in cubes, sea food, chicken, meat cut in small pieces, cooked before or not, depending if it can be cooked in the risotto itself.

The basic Asian way of cooking rice:

To prepare the rice this way, you can use a rice cooker; this is a wonderful device. It will cook alone and keep the rice warm for hours.

If you do not have a rice cooker:

1- Put one volume of rice (Thai, Basmati etc.) in a pot.

2- Add 11/2 the volume of water, and stir.

3- Put on a medium to high heat.

4- Bring to the boil. Cover with a lid and boil on a low to medium heat until cooked.

5- Serve immediately.

(Make sure the water does not evaporate too much during the cooking. Do not stir the rice during the cooking).

Brown rice

Brown rice can be cooked in the same way as: “Boiled Rice: The simplest way to cook any rice”; except that the rice will need to be cooked for about 1 hour to be ready.

Drain and store like plain rice in the recipe above.

When a person thinks of cork, they may think of a variety of things. Some people may think of the material used for bulletin boards, while some may think of material used for coasters. Others, thoroughly confused, may simply think of cork as the other white meat. Chances are, however, when most people think of cork, they think of wine. Part of each others’ lives, the two are nearly inseparable, especially without a wine opener.

What is Cork?

It would be easy to define a cork with a simple, unrefined answer. We could say that cork is a lightweight, inert substance providing blockage of liquids and leave it at that. But, because cork is an elemental part of wine, it is bestowed with certain elegance and sophistication. For this reason, wine cork deserves a more grandiose introduction: Cork hails from the bark of the Cork Oak tree, Quercus Suber. Produced extensively in Portugal, cork enjoys being fire resistant, providing insulation, and the company of fine alcohol.

Since cork is very elastic and impermeable, it makes a great bottle stopper; for cork, just like for many of us, wine was destiny. Its adaptability, additionally, makes it an easy material to compress without change to the original shape. It was these qualities that intrigued Dom Perignon, a French Benedictine monk, to use cork in a bottle of champagne, thus influencing the world of wine from that moment on.

How Do Wine Corks Affect the Environment?

Wine corks are environmentally friendly, like a material that is always willing to lend a helping hand or an encouraging word to the ecosystem. This makes wine corks stand out from other forms of packaging, forms that often hinder their surroundings rather than help them.

Wine corks are biodegradable, natural, and renewable. They also don’t go to waste, with each aspect of a wine cork having the potential to become something else. Even cork dust can be used for fuel and cork residue can be used to make other cork products.

Cork forests, where cork oak trees reside, are important to the balance of the ecosystems with several species, including endangered species, calling these forests home.

What is Wine Cork Recycling?

Many places, such as Europe and Australia, have programs set up for wine cork recycling. Dropping wine corks off in designated areas, the wine corks are granulated and turned into products such as pin boards, tile, engine gaskets, hockey balls, safety mats, and boat decks. Recently, wine cork has even been used in rocket technology.

Because wine cork is one of the easier materials to recycle, there seems little reason to not recycle it. However, the US does not routinely engage in wine cork recycling, leaving some environmentalists to wonder why.

This wonderment, not limited to individuals, has been adopted by a few US based companies. One of these companies, Yemm and Hart, a firm specializing in the recycling of products, is conducting an experiment asking for wine corks that they can recycle. Theorizing that cork is a valuable resource that should not go to waste, Yemm and Hart plan to begin manufacturing tack boards, coasters, plaques, and floor tiles all made from wine cork.

What Are Creative Ways to Recycle Wine Cork?

If the concept of wine cork recycling catches on, recycling wine cork in the US may someday be as simple as recycling newspapers or soda cans. In the meantime, however, those who live in America can recycle their wine corks through a few creative means.

While some people have donated wine corks to children’s museums, for use in displays and dioramas, others have made wreaths and decorative pieces out of old wine corks. Some people wire together wine corks and make hot pads while others suggest gluing sliced wine corks to the bottom of vases and knickknacks, as a means to keep these items from scratching tables and shelves. People have even found old wine corks useful as door stops, knife scrubbers, and pin cushions.

Just as wine should never go to waste, neither should wine corks. A highly useable material, there are several ways wine corks can be recycled, even if it’s not routinely done on a national level. With all the kinds of packaging that can destroy the Earth, cork is an exception. A special material, cork is able to protect wine and the world by putting a stop to wastefulness.

Jennifer Jordan is the senior editor at http://www.savoreachglass.com. With a vast knowledge of wine etiquette, she writes articles on everything from how to hold a glass of wine to how to hold your hair back after too many glasses. Ultimately, she writes her articles with the intention that readers will remember wine is fun and each glass of anything fun should always be savored.

If you have difficulty with cooking or can’t cook at all this needn’t be something that you have to put up with for the rest of your life. Learning how to cook is easy, simple and can be fun.

One of the things I always wanted since my teenage years was to have the ability to cook a decent meal. I knew that the only way I would achieve this goal was by learning how to cook. I didn’t want to be a professional chef but merely a competent amateur.

The first way that I set about learning how to cook was by watching what my parents did in the kitchen. After a short period my mother asked me what I was doing hanging about in the kitchen all the time. I told her of my ambition to cook and she then gave me some advice on different techniques and methods of cooking. I had learnt my first lesson and was well on my way to learning how to cook. These lessons went on for many years.

I later got a part time job at a local restaurant which taught me further. Unfortunately this job was only during the school holidays. What I learnt in that kitchen just expanded on what my mother had taught me. It gave me more confidence in my ability to cook.

Then I got married and learnt extra recipes and techniques from my new wife.

So the learning continued.

Learning how to cook can be a lifetime journey. There are always new recipes to conquer and new heights to climb.

Other places where you can learn how to cook and get new recipes are from Magazines, DVD’s, Videos, Cookbooks, The Internet and watching Cooking Shows on TV. These will show you different techniques and methods as well as numerous new recipes.

When watching the professionals on TV always have a pen and paper handy so that you can make notes as you go. These shows are becoming more popular and are seen on all TV channels.

Another thing that I do in my journey of learning how to cook is opening my mouth and asking questions. I ask for recipes from friends and family. If I have been at a friends home for a meal and have enjoyed it, I will ask for the recipe. If they have used a technique that I have not previously used I will ask about it.

There are also many classes available at community colleges. These courses can usually be found on the college’s website or give the college a call and ask them what courses they are planning to hold in the future.

As mentioned previously learning how to cook can be fun. Start with easy recipes then gradually step up to more complex ones.

I hope you have learned something from the above article and thank you for your interest in it.

Be glad you didn’t give up – here’s your source and at a reasonable price.

Those of us purchasing HEPA vacuum cleaners a few years ago thought we were doing a good thing but then all the newer models overwhelmed the parts market and many retailers don’t carry this one anymore. (Once again, cut on the cutting edge of technology!) For now, this is a great source for replacements. They are original parts and work perfectly. Consider buying two or more and you will be set for at least another year!

Replacement style HF 9 HEPA filter cartridge for model No. 4100 and 4300 thru 4600 series, and self propelled model No. 5180 and 5190 series. For optimum performance change your filter every 6 months.. read more.

(My dad has had the same Electrolux for 30 years) It worked perfectly the first time. The second time it kind of worked but when I picked it up, all the dirt fell out of the bottom. I didn’t try to vacuum up anything crazy, just normal dirt etc. This continued to happen, so I changed the filter, no luck. Now it doesn’t work AT ALL. It just pushes the dirt around the floor. It’s basically the most expensive broom I’ve ever bought. The removable mini vac kind of works by itself…. but for a much cheaper price, you can get that by itself! Not worth it… at all. I could have just got a bum one though, but make sure you check the warranty, if you do decide to buy it.
